Performed at The Brick Theatre, Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
The Present Perfect revolves around a cocktail party gone horribly awry: the host plays mind games, the guests molest the furniture, and our protagonist, an eminent interior designer in love with her crystalline art collection, is driven to eat glass. The play dissects the marriage of art and commerce, inviting the viewer to experience first hand the fine line between patron and voyeur.
The world premiere production featured a Gehry-esqe set designed by sculptor Megan Biddle, and filled with one of a kind glass art work, and garnered the production a nomination for excellence in set design at the 2007 NYIT Awards. The furniture over which the play's characters fawn and froth is a mix futurist and domestotelian designs straight out of a Kubrick film. The costumes include Bespoke-style men's suits and women's couture three piece skirt suits designed by Caroline Burwell, whose Burwell New York clothing line has been featured in the pages of the New York Times style section and W magazine. The exemplary lighting plot won Peter Hœrburger a 2007 NYIT award for Excellence in Lighting Design.
